Above ground Storage Tank (AST) Program

Designed to meet the requirements of API 653, MISTRAS Services comprehensive Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Program gives you a detailed assessment of the condition of your tanks. Our program offers Magnetic Flux Exclusion (MFE) technology for the rapid detection of floor plate corrosion. Ultrasonic Testing (UT) methods used to quantify the corrosion damage, including A-scan, B-scan, and automated systems capable of digital data acquisition, storage and analysis of corrosion areas.

Shell and roof thickness can be measured with MISTRAS Services manual UT pole crawler or our automated UT tank crawler. The automated system is capable of acquiring up to 1000 thickness readings per course, per scan as it crawls up the side of your tank. It also provides an automatic calculation of a safe fill height for the tank.

Tank settlement and localized depression/bulging is assessed in accordance with Appendix B of API 653 utilizing a laser transit system. Our complete reports typically incorporate CAD drawings of the floor, shell, and roof, along with the actual inspection data and applicable calculations for corrosion rates and estimated service life of the tanks.
